NEWS: Matt Pugh joins CarlWattsGolf Programme

Having had a 2 day tournament assessment with myself Carl Watts at The Jamega Tour event at The Vale of Glamorgan 26th-28th April where all areas of Matt’s business was assessed in detail with all the information added to the tournament report including how he prepared, whether he maximised his practice rounds, how he used his yardage book, his reaction to adversity on the course, how he warmed up, how he practiced, how he reviewed his round and tournament and much more. This was a thorough account of where Matt stands as a tournament professional! I am delighted to say after the event Matt has decided to work with myself on a strict 6 month programme working on all areas of his business/game from swing technique to putting routines, sponsorship to fitness, mind training to self management. After the 6 months we will re assess Matt’s progress and decide his future options.

Ping through their tour representative Geoff Waddington have agreed to supply Pete James with equipment for 2010, on March 1st Pete & Carl Watts attended a fitting day in Gainsborough where Pete was fitted with a whole selection of clubs to maximise Petes advantage of the distance he hits the ball. A great company that we hope to be working with for many years to come.

NEWS: Pete James Hi5 6th

Well done to Pete James for another top 10 finish, his 6th place finish was well deserved after a 1st round of 77 followed by rounds of 68 & 69, the key to the week was his putting, averaging 28 putts per round. Over the last 6 months we focused on improving his putting from averaging 35 putts per round in the 2009 season, its not been easy at all, yet the proof is clear to see, the average for the year so far is 28.6 which is well within European Tour standard. The aim now is not to take the foot of the gas which is easy to do when things are goiung well, the daily drills, the stats, planning his time well. Excellent start to the year but as mentioned after the work put in, justly deserved.

Also joing the CarlWattsGolf coaching programme is Alps Tour member Mark Hooper, last week Mark joined us at the Hi5 tour event so I could spend the week assessing his approach to the game, his weaknessess & strengths, I am very blunt in my approach as I am a believer in the player needs to know & not simply be put on a pedlestool, an excellent week & we are clear what areas Mark must focus on especially with the season fast approaching!

If you are interested in a tournament assessment please contact me on the details on this site.

NEWS: Pete James Hi5 play-off

Congratulations to Pete James for finishing tied for the lead at The Hi5 Tour Villiantana Tournament in Benidorm, Spain. It was an excellent start to the year, we used the week as a practice week looking to embed several changes we have made over the last 4-5 months, the work we have put into Pete’s game is really starting to pay off whilst we are very aware there is still much to do. At present I am looking for 2 other players to work with who will be competing on The Alps Tour this year along with 3 players on The Jamega Tour, if you are interested please contact me asap….

2010 Coaching Opportunities

Wake up calls

Every now and then we all get wake up calls to life, golf, work etc, now the wake up call is all very nice but its what changes you impliment when you have had the critically honest look at yourself through your own eyes or someone elses. Its not easy hearing something that will sting a little or alot but true courage comes from the person who can take criticism on the chin, put their hands up and say “Hi I’m Carl and I always look for the easy route out at anything I do”. Once the realisation has been made its time to make changes, if you dont your in denial, you wont move forward and your hoping if you keep doing the same thing over and over eventually you will get a different result! Its called national lottery mentality, you dont want to work at creating a long term strong foundation instead you want the 10,000,000 to 1 shot at fame and fortune. My advice is every few months to have enough courage to ask the people around you what they think of you as a person, at work, whats your effort like, do you whinge, are you always late, are you annoying, are you ungrateful, selfish even, all I know I would rather know whats holding me back, confront it, understand it and try as hard as I can to change with the supports of friends, family, coaches etc. Dont hide from the truth, take a self inflicted wake up call, if several people around you say the same thing, I’m pretty sure they cant all be wrong?
